The Office of Legal Affairs (OLA) works with the Office of International Affairs (OIA) and other offices at the university to advise the university and hiring units on immigration matters affecting international faculty, staff, and students. OLA also prepares and files employment-based immigration petitions on behalf of the university or works with outside counsel on such filings. Pursuant to Ohio law, only OLA or attorneys or entities authorized by the Ohio Attorney General may represent the university in legal matters, including immigration filings. This means that NO ONE at Ohio State may sign an I-140, I-129, ETA-9089, or G-28 for the university for an immigration application or petition on behalf of an Ohio State employee without first discussing the matter with OLA or OIA.
