Emily Tapocsi manages and oversees litigation for The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in a variety of forums including state and federal courts. In this role, she works closely with outside counsel and The Office of the Attorney General on a wide variety litigation matters including professional liability claims, personal injury claims, premises liability claims, employment/faculty claims, contract disputes and class actions. Emily also provides counsel to the Risk Management Committee and Self Insurance Board, and serves as an advisor on litigation-related issues, regulations, medical staff compliance, business litigation and administrative matters in coordination with other legal counsel within the Office of Legal Affairs.
Prior to Emily appointment with the University in 2022, she served fifteen years with the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, with her last four years as Chief of the Environmental Enforcement Section. In that position, she was responsible for a group of attorneys handling complex, high-profile, science-based litigation. She advised on policy, procedure, and substantive case preparation and strategy, and coordinated with the Attorney General as well as leadership from Ohio agencies and the Department of Justice. She also served eleven years in the Court of Claims Defense Section, with the last six years as Assistant Chief. In that role, Emily managed a civil defense litigation group that represented state entities in cases asserting wrongful death, medical negligence, and other professional liability claims. Emily also served as Chair of the Ohio Attorney General’s office-wide eDiscovery Group, and was a faculty member of the National Attorneys General Training and Research Institute.
